Rustic chicken coop

I needed to refurbish the hen house for the girls. I decided that the two main aims for a good hen house must be :

  1. to be made of found or repurposed materials

  2. to be amazingly cute and quirky

(and of course to be cosy and rainproof)

So after much sketching, planning, measuring and research on Pinterest, I started assembling the materials. I used the old shiplap cedar boards that had be removed from our house, some leftover Shadowclad, all wood from my shed, a crate lid (door), left over paint, old corrugated sheet (traded for some eggs), and the old coop salvaged screws. The only things I had to get was stainless steel hinges, and polyurethane to preserve the door. I decided to put the next box inside (yet with external access) for cosiness and simplicity of construction.

The girls seem to love it!
