Design Your Own Food Forest

Are you interested to see a lovely mature Food Forest that has been created in a backyard setting in suburban St Johns? Come and be inspired by how much food production there is in this 10 year old forest garden. Anyone can turn their ordinary backyard into an oasis of fruit trees, herbs, vegetables, berries and edible perennials. Spend a relaxing Saturday morning strolling through the woodland paths, foraging for herbs, and looking at the chickens and perusing the garden art for sale. Food Forest Garden Tour (an EcoFest Event)
This is a weekly event during EcoFest. Choose from the following dates:

This garden tour and demo is part of Tamaki Makaurau EcoFest 2026 and we are proud to host this event in conjunction with the EcoFest.

Creating Calm: Blending Herbal Teas for Relaxation and Wellness
You will learn about the healing and wellbeing properties of a selection of herbs that can be easily grown in your own garden. You will learn how to identify , grow and harvest the herbs. We will cover preservation and storage techniques.
Note: This workshop is not held at St Johns Food Forest, but at a nearby, lovely permaculture garden (“Wadhamville” in St Heliers) details upon registration.

Edible Garden Workshop
24 May 2025 10 am - 1.00 pm
Learn how to include more edible plants such as fruit trees, berries, herbs and perennial vegetables into your backyard garden. We will cover soil building, creating gardens from lawn, water wise systems, introduction to permaculture methods and keeping chickens. This workshop takes place in a lovely, mature food forest in the suburbs (St Johns, Auckland) and will inspire you to create your own productive edible garden.
